Event details
EduCampLondon is the first un-conference on teaching and learning within the UK HE sector. Central Saint Martin's School of Art is hosting EduCampLondon at the Innovation Centre in March 2010
EduCampLondon is an informal and collaborative event which includes academic staff, technical staff, senior managers and students sharing ideas and perceptions of present and future learning technologies.
The day aims to provide a focus on pedagogical issues around eLearning/blended-learning scenarios through a series of participant driven discussion, demos and interaction.
EduCampLondon is styled around the BarCamp format as an ad-hoc unconference born from the desire for people to share and learn in an open environment.
Attendees must give a presentation, or help with one, or otherwise volunteer / contribute in some way to support the event. All presentations are scheduled the day they happen.
"BarCamp style of participatory-informal learning offers a terrific opportunity for collaboration across communities of practice. Exchanging knowledge and ideas that inform pedagogy and technology is a central element to prepare us for the challenges of a sustainable connected world." Harold Fricker & Tim Bush (EduCampLodon organisers)
The starting point for EduCampLondon
EduCampLondon was conceived in a coffee shop during a regular planning meeting between Tim Bush (ULCC) and Harold Fricker back in February 2009.
More specifically, the idea to organise EduCampLondon started when Tim said he'd like to organise an un-conference under the name of EduCamp. Harold immediately spotted potential in the event and suggested calling it EduCampLondon as a way of opening up further events across the UK and beyond.
A few scribbles & rough drawings on scraps of paper later and EducCampLondon was born...
Tim Bush and Harold Fricker collaborate across a number succesful initiatives promoting the adoption of learning technologies as well as providing advice and support to develop a range of creative learning solutions for HE. Most of their work results from engaging with Web2.0 technologies, in particular social media, not only as poweful collaboration and sharing tools to communicate with audiences, but more importantly to enhance the learner's experience.
"We are delighted that Central Saint Martins is hosting EduCampLondon. The Innovation Centre is the perfect place to share best practice in an informal, dynamic and productive style of learning, this is a refreshing way to network and meet new ideas and people. Learning is about interacting and engaging with people and ideas across a range of platforms. And we just love it!"
We would like to thank Malcolm Johnston, Jo Morrison and staff at CSM for their kind support in making EduCampLondon@CSM possible.
