Planning Meeting Recap
Meeting date:
3 August 2007, noon
Meeting location:
Panera Bread at the Summit
In Attendance:
LUG Fest Format:
Decided that a barcamp-style LUG Fest would meet our needs.
Conference Date:
After consulting UA and AU football schedules, decided that 22 September is the best date available this fall.
Location:
Tentatively UAB (open to suggestions). We need a minimum of 2 presentation rooms and one room for roundtable discussions.
Presentations:
Would like to get people to sign up to do presentations on the AlabamaLugFest website. If we do not have 10 presenters signed up by 8 September, the LF will be cancelled. Some presentation ideas included 'An introduction to Linux' and 'Getting started with scripting'.
Presentations should be no more than 50 minutes long (including any Q&As)
More popular presentations should be scheduled in the afternoon to allow extra time for people traveling to Bham.
For people visiting Birmingham:
Make list of recommended hotels available on AlabamaLugFest website.
Post-presentations:
Would like to have a social event after the presentations. Any ideas?
Action Items:
- Come up with list of presentation ideas. This will help us get presenters.
- Contact opensource vendors to get some loot to give away.
- Decide if we want to do a hardware swap on 21 September.
- Confirm location for conference.
- Beg/borrow equipment needed for presentations/conference (tables, chairs, projectors, etc.)
- Notify all Alabama LUGs (and non-Linux UGs) that LUGFest 2007 has been scheduled
- Decide what to do about food. Maybe do what IPSA does - let people pre-order a box lunch from Jason's Deli. Or they can leave for lunch.
- Consult with IPSA and TechBirmingham to see what assistance and advice they can provide.
- Decide if we are going to charge a fee to attend the conference. (What did SALUG do when they held LUGFest?)
